At Urbany Community Development, we are fully aware of how gentrification adversely affects communities and how this impact has a detrimental effect on a significant number of families living in the neighborhood. Our priority is to help the original residents remain in the neighborhood they have been instrumental in building and nurturing. We also work to bring back the families that have been forced to move away from their community because of gentrification. To achieve these objectives, it is important for us to create housing options that are highly affordable for low income families.

This is only a part of what we do. As part of our planning initiatives, we help identify the needs of the community and we design supportive housing projects that address these specific needs. Our designers take extra care to review the existing buildings in the community where we undertake projects. They also factor in the specific characteristics to be incorporated into the building design so that we deliver sustainable, aesthetic housing that adds value to the neighborhood. We undertake community surveys, interact with the residents and focus groups about prevailing issues, assess land/ building condition and also stay in touch with local advisory boards to get an accurate picture of the requirements.
